We meet monthly at our headquarters at the Red Cross building Parera on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, excluding July (vacation recess) and December. Meetings start at 8pm and are open to visitors.

March 2026 update

At the last day of March we'd like to reflect on this month's activities for VERONA.

PJ2PZ Repeater update

On March 10 we visited Seru Gracia, the hill behind the St. Christoffel, where the PJ2PZ repeater (was) installed. This repeater had been non-functional for some time and needed to be checked onsite. While onsite we tested the repeater and concluded that it was not receiving (therefor not transmitting) anything. Upon further inspection we measured a higher than expected SWR on the feedline heading to the repeater's antenna. Considering this, and the fact that we have to remove the antenna regardless from this outdated tower, we took this opportunity to remove all of our equipment (antenna, coax, repeater and accessories) from the site pending the repairs. With the ambition to renew and re-install everything necessary once the repeater is repaired. 

New secretary

During this month's meeting, we had our annual general member's meeting. In addition to the standard formalities a new secretary was elected: Michael Ellis (PJ2ME) has served in this role for many years, and had decided that it was time to step down. During this meeting Michel Greijmans (PJ2XX) made himself available to serve in this function and was quickly elected as VERONA's new secretary.

Field day at Mahuma

PJ2CF (Carlo) and P41E (Ethiën) organized a field day at an abandoned sport field on the Mahuma hill, close to the Airport and Meteorological facilities. This field is ideal for field days like ours, considering the height and (at the time of operating) very low noise floor.

PJ2CF armed a 40-meter dipole, while P41E armed his end-fed antenna. We compared the performance of both: the dipole appears to outperform in most areas, however you are limited to a single band.

The propagation conditions ware very challenging, from our location we could reach Aruba, but just barely, however conditions improved slightly as we progressed.

PJ2AFM (Angelo) served as net-controller from his QTH for Antillen-net. PJ2SG and PJ2XX also presented at the field operation from where they joined the Antillen-net.

January 2026 Meeting

At our first meeting for 2026 we discussed our plans and ambitions as a club for this year, PJ2ZZ assisted in sorting our the QSL cards we received, and we presented the launch of our new website!

Our plans for this year are:

  • Fix the PJ2PZ repeater (high priority)
  • Build out a "HamNet", a microwave IP network using Net44 connecting strategic (repeater) sites for remote monitoring, configuration and experimenting.
  • Get a quote, then inquire members to order our VERONA uniforms. 
  • Inquire and plan activities for this year: contests and events.
